Branding themes
A branding theme is a logo and an accent color that WorkZerk applies to the pages the people you onboard actually see. Without one they get a clean but anonymous page. With one they get yours, which matters when you are asking someone for a license scan or a signature and they are deciding whether the link is legitimate.
You can keep more than one theme, which is useful if you onboard under more than one trading name.
Making a theme
Open Branding themes and click New theme. Give it a name (up to 100 characters, for your reference only, nobody else sees it) and pick an accent color, then Create theme.
The theme's page opens next, where you add the logo with Upload logo. It takes a PNG or JPEG up to 2 MB. A transparent PNG looks best, and anything over 600 pixels on its longest side is resized for you, so a logo straight from your brand kit is fine. There is a Remove logo action if you want to go back to no logo without deleting the theme.
The accent color is used for the buttons on the portal page and the self-registration page. WorkZerk works out whether black or white text reads better against whatever you pick and uses that automatically, so a pale accent does not produce white-on-white buttons.
Setting the logo size
Once a theme has a logo, a Logo size card appears under it on the theme page. Drag the slider to make the logo smaller or larger, anywhere from 40% to 250% of the standard size, and the previews resize as you drag. Nothing changes for anyone else until you click Save logo size. Reset to 100% moves the slider back to the standard size; save to apply it.
One setting sizes the logo everywhere the theme shows it: the portal page, the self-registration page, and printed and PDF output. Each of those keeps its own layout, and the slider makes the logo bigger or smaller in all of them together. A wide wordmark usually wants a smaller setting and a square crest a larger one, which is why the size lives on the theme, next to the logo it was chosen for.
Two things to know when you pick a size:
- Print runs a little larger. The previews show the size on screen. Printed pages and PDFs show the logo slightly bigger.
- A logo never grows past the image you uploaded. For a large setting, upload a logo of at least 400 pixels on its longest side, or the slider stops making a difference before it reaches the end.
Choosing which theme a portal uses
A theme is picked per portal, not globally. Open the portal's settings (Portal Settings, beside its name) and the Branding theme dropdown is on the Details tab, showing your themes with "(default)" marked and a (None) option.
That dropdown only appears once you have at least one theme, so if you cannot find it, make a theme first.
The default theme
Click Set as default theme (in the theme's menu on the list, or at the top of the theme page) and new portals start with it already selected. Portals that already exist are never rewritten when you change the default, so switching it is safe: it changes what happens next, not what you have already set up.
Unset as default on the default theme's page leaves you with no default, without deleting anything.
The default theme does double duty. It is also where the logo on your printed procedures manual and your downloaded terms PDFs comes from, so a theme is worth setting up even if you never change one on a portal.
Where the branding shows
- The private link each person opens, which is the one that matters most.
- The self-registration page, if the portal lets people add themselves.
- Printed and PDF output, including the requests report, the procedures manual and terms PDFs.
Leave a portal on (None) and those pages fall back to WorkZerk's own styling. Nothing breaks; it is not yours.
Emails are not themed. They go out in WorkZerk's standard layout from WorkZerk's own sending address, and sending from your own domain is not available on WorkZerk.
Deleting a theme
Delete theme is in the theme's menu on the list. Portals pointing at it fall back to unbranded rather than breaking. If you delete your default theme and have others, the first one in alphabetical order becomes the default.
If a theme is only wrong rather than unwanted, edit it instead. Because portals reference the theme rather than keeping a copy of it, fixing the logo or its size once corrects every portal using that theme at the same time.
