Installing WorkZerk as an app

getting-started

WorkZerk runs in a browser. If you would rather it sat on your home screen or in your dock, opening in its own window with no address bar, you can install it. There is no App Store or Play Store listing: installing saves a launcher for the same web app.

What you get, and what you do not

You get a standalone window with no tabs or address bar, and an icon in your dock, taskbar or home screen. The installed app opens on Requests, the same as the browser.

You do not get a separate account, separate data, or anything the browser version cannot do. Nothing in WorkZerk needs the installed version.

It does not make WorkZerk work offline. Installing gives you a window, not a local copy: the pages still come from the network every time. The offline behavior that does exist is on the portal pages the people you onboard open, not on your side of the app.

On a laptop

Chrome, Edge or Brave. Open app.workzerk.com, sign in, and look for the install icon at the right-hand end of the address bar (a small monitor with a downward arrow). No icon? The three-dot menu has Install app or Cast, save and share then Install page as app, depending on version.

Safari on macOS. File, then Add to Dock.

Either way it lands in your Applications folder or Start menu, and you can pin it wherever you keep things. Removing it is the same as any other app, and the browser version keeps working.

On a phone or tablet

iPhone or iPad. Open the site in Safari, tap the share icon, scroll, tap Add to Home Screen, then Add. Recent versions of iOS offer the same option in the share menu of Chrome and Edge.

Android. Open it in Chrome. A small install prompt usually appears on the second or third visit; otherwise the three-dot menu has Install app or Add to Home Screen. Some phones drop the icon into the app drawer rather than the home screen, so long-press it there to put a copy on the home screen.

The icon is labelled WorkZerk, and on a phone the app opens in portrait.

Signing in and updating

On a laptop or Android phone, your sign-in carries over from the browser. On iPhone and iPad the home-screen app keeps its own sign-in, so you sign in once inside it. Sign out inside the installed app and you sign back in there next time.

Updates arrive on their own. There is no version to download and nothing to approve, so if a change looks missing, reload the page (pull down on mobile, or close and reopen the app).

If install is not offered

  • You are in a private or incognito window. Browsers do not install from those.
  • You installed it before and removed it. Some browsers stop offering the prompt after that. Use the explicit menu item instead of waiting for it.
  • Your browser is old. See supported browsers and devices.

None of these mean anything is wrong with your account, and the browser version does the same job.

Getting help

If the installed app behaves differently from the same page in a browser tab, say so when you open a help ticket: it is unusual enough to be worth knowing about.
