Registration templates
The self-registration form is short on purpose: first name, surname and email. A registration template is the page around it. It carries your logo, your instructions, photos and anything else people should read before they register. You design it once, publish it, and choose it on any portal's self-registration link.
For the link itself, see Self-registration.
When to use one
The plain form shows your logo, a heading and an optional plain-text description. That is enough for a link you send to a handful of people who already know what it is for.
A registration template earns its place when the link goes somewhere public:
- a QR code at a volunteer briefing, where people need to know what they are signing up for
- a "Register as a contractor" button on your website, where the page should look like yours
- a job ad, with what to have ready and what happens after they register
- an induction, with the site rules set out before anyone fills the form in
Creating a template
Go to Branding in the sidebar, then Registration templates (the button at the top of the Branding page, or the link under Branding in the sidebar). Type a name (for example "Volunteer sign-up") into New registration template and Create takes you straight into the builder. All registration templates at the top of the builder takes you back to the list.
A template belongs to no portal of its own, so one template can be used on any number of self-registration links. You can have up to 100 registration templates.
Building with blocks
A registration template is a stack of full-width blocks, top to bottom. Use + Insert to add one, drag the handle to reorder, and the preview on the right updates as you go. A template holds up to 100 blocks.
- Text: headings, paragraphs, bold and bullet lists. Click the block to write, and click away to save.
- Logo: the logo from the portal's branding theme, at the size and alignment you choose. If the portal has no branding theme, the block is left off the page.
- Image: one picture from your Files library, with a width, alignment and shape.
- Gallery: 2 to 4 pictures from your Files library, side by side, all cropped to the same shape.
- Testimonial: someone's words, their name and an optional detail line.
- Button: a button that opens a web address, an email (start the link with mailto:) or a phone number (start it with tel:).
- Divider: a line between two sections.
- Registration form: where the form sits on the page.
A block with nothing in it (a Text block you have not written, an Image block with no picture chosen) is left off the public page, so a half-finished block never shows as an empty box.
Where the form goes
The Registration form block marks the form's place. Everything above it shows above the form, and everything below it shows below. Put the short version above (who you are, what this is) and the detail below (what happens next, who to contact).
A template can hold one Registration form block. If you leave it out, the form goes at the end of the page, after every block.
Keep what sits above the form short. Someone who scanned a QR code on a phone should reach the form without a long scroll.
Fonts
Heading font and Body font above the preview set the typography for the whole template. The same fonts show on the public page.
The preview
The preview shows your draft as you edit. The form in it is a stand-in, drawn to show how much room the real one takes. To see the real page, publish the template, choose it on a link, and use Open in the Self-registration link panel.
Publishing a template
Every edit saves to a draft straight away. People registering only ever see the published version, so a template half way through a redesign never reaches a live link.
The bar at the top of the builder shows where you are:
- Not published: nobody sees the template yet. Publish template makes it available to choose on a link.
- Unpublished changes: your edits are saved as a draft, and the page still shows the version you last published. Publish template puts the draft live. Discard changes puts the draft back to the published version.
- Published: the page shows this version.
Publishing reaches every link that uses the template at once. The builder says how many live self-registration links that is.
Putting it on a self-registration link
Open the portal and find the Self-registration link panel. With the link on, choose your template under Registration template. It saves as soon as you pick one. Only published templates are listed.
While a template is in use, the page's own logo header and the Registration page description are not shown, because the template carries both. The description is kept, and shows again if you set the template back to None (plain form).
The "Check your email" confirmation and the "Registration closed" message look the same with or without a template.
Buttons that link to another website
On a trial, a Button block that links to another website is left off the public page. It shows once your paid plan has started. Buttons that open an email or a phone number show on every plan. The preview tells you when a button is being held back.
Images and your Files library
Image and Gallery blocks use pictures from Files. A picture that is on a registration template cannot be deleted from Files until you remove it from the template. Only the pictures placed on a published template can be loaded through a registration link; the rest of your Files library stays private.
Deleting a template
Delete on the list removes a template for good. Any self-registration link that used it goes back to the plain form with your logo and description, and keeps taking registrations. The delete confirmation says how many live links that affects.
