Opening your link

getting-started

Your link is the whole of your access. This covers opening it for the first time, what is on the page, and what the dead-end messages mean if you hit one.

Where the link came from

The company onboarding you generated a link for you personally and either emailed it or pasted it into a message. It has /v/ in the path followed by a long string of characters.

That string is the credential. There is no password behind it, so treat the link the way you would treat a password: don't post it in a group chat, and don't forward it to a colleague. Everything you upload and answer through it is filed under your name. If someone else needs to submit their own paperwork, they need their own link, which the company can issue in a few seconds.

Opening it

Tap the link and it opens in your browser. Nothing installs, nothing asks you to register. It works on a phone, a tablet or a laptop, and the layout is built for a phone first.

The first thing to check is the line reading This page is for followed by a name (and your email address, if the company has one on file). That is who the company thinks you are. If it names someone else, stop and tell them before you upload anything, because the submission would land on that person's record.

Checking who sent the link

The page carries a line saying who runs it: "This page is run by an account with a verified yourcompany.com email address". That domain is the one the company's account is registered to, and the company cannot edit or hide it. Check that it matches the company you expected. The email that brought you the link ends with the same line.

If the line says the account uses a personal email address, not a business email address, be sure you know who sent you the link before you upload a document or type in bank details. If something looks wrong, use Report this page beside the line.

What is on the page

Top to bottom:

  • My portals, a link at the top and again at the bottom. It opens a page listing every portal you hold a link for with this company, which is the more useful thing to bookmark. See saving your portal link.
  • A logo, if the company has set one. It is theirs, not ours. The button colors on the page may be theirs too.
  • The name of what you are being onboarded into, as they named it. "Northgate contractor onboarding", "2026 membership pack".
  • Your name, in the This page is for line. If your email address is shown there, Email me this link beside it sends your link to that address, which is handy for opening it on another device or finding it again later. It can be used once a day.
  • A Check in button, only if the company tracks who is on site. Tap it when you arrive and Check out when you leave.
  • Your team or group, if they have assigned you one.
  • Anything they want you to read first. Notes for everyone, then notes written for you specifically.
  • A notes box, if they have turned one on, for anything you want to tell them.
  • Your list of asks. Documents, questions, terms, checklists, in the order they arranged them. Each is marked Required or Optional. This is the substance of the page.
  • A progress bar underneath, counting the required items you have answered. Once they are all in, a Submit bar appears at the bottom of the screen, and you are not done until you press it. Answering questions and signing terms covers this.
  • Files and links they have shared with you.

There is no date or deadline anywhere on the page, so if you need to know when your documents are due, go by whatever the company told you when they sent the link.

There is a small Online indicator near the top. It turns to Offline when your connection drops, which is a useful thing to glance at if a submission is not going through.

The page does not refresh itself. If the company tells you they have added something or reviewed a document, reload the page to see it.

If it says "Link not active"

The link has been switched off or replaced, or the address got mangled somewhere between their message and your browser.

An old link can't be brought back to life. Ask the company for a fresh one; they can reissue it immediately, and your existing submissions are attached to your record with them, not to the link, so nothing you already sent is lost.

Before you ask, check the obvious one: a link split across two lines in a message, or one that lost its last few characters when you copied it. Opening it directly from the original email rules that out.

If it says "This portal is closed"

Different thing entirely. The link is fine; the company has closed the whole portal, which switches off every link on it at once and stops new registrations. It is usually intentional, at the end of a hiring round or a membership season.

If you were expecting to submit something, contact the company. They can reopen it.

If you get a "not found" page

The link resolves to nothing that can be shown. Either the address is incomplete, or the account behind it is no longer active. Check the link as above, then ask the company.

Open it once while you have a real connection

The page saves a copy of itself on your device after the first successful load, so opening it again later works even with no signal at all. That is worth doing before you find yourself somewhere with no coverage and something to check.

The copy is per device and per browser, so open it on the phone you actually carry, and open it again if you change phones. A private or incognito window won't keep it. The My portals page is not saved this way and always needs a connection.

Reading offline is one thing, submitting is another. Uploads, answers and signatures all need a live connection to reach the company, so one attempted with no signal fails rather than waiting. Get back into coverage and send it then.

The one exception is the Check in and Check out button. Tapped with no connection, or on Wi-Fi that has no internet behind it, it shows Queued and goes through by itself once your connection is back.

If none of that helps

Go back to whoever sent you the link. They can see on their side whether your link is live, whether your submissions arrived, and what is still outstanding, and they can reissue the link. WorkZerk support has no way to open your page or act on it for you.
