In-app notifications (the bell)

emails-and-notifications

The bell in the top bar is where WorkZerk tells you something happened while you were not looking. A badge shows how many are waiting, and the tray lists them newest first, each linking straight to what it is about.

What lands there

Someone finished everything you asked for. The headline names the person and the line under it names the portal. Clicking it opens that portal. It fires when they submit with every required request done. Pressing the button again, or editing an answer, does not notify you twice. If something becomes outstanding again (you add a required request, or they remove an answer), they have to finish again, and that raises a new notification. Finishing on someone's behalf from their link while you are signed in does not notify you.

A self-registration email did not send. Someone registered on a portal, but the email carrying their private link failed, so they have nothing to open. Open the portal and resend the link from their row.

An automation gave up. When an automation's reminder fails, it tries 3 times in total. After the last attempt it stops, and the bell names the automation, who it was for, and why it stopped. Nothing was sent, so follow that person up yourself.

Someone joined your account. A colleague accepted your invitation to share the account. Clicking it opens Sharing.

One list, shared by everyone on the account

There is no per-person read state. Everyone on the account sees the same list, the badge shows for everyone until someone clears an item, and clearing removes it for everyone. Treat it as a shared tray your team works through, not a personal inbox.

If you delete a portal, the notifications that link to it are cleared from the bell at the same time, so the bell never sends you to a portal that is no longer there.

Clearing does not delete anything else. Clear a completion notice and the person's answers, uploads, and approval state are all where they were. You are only dismissing the notice.

Clearing

The x on the right of each row clears that one. Clear all at the top of the tray clears everything the tray is showing you. Anything that arrives after you opened it stays on the bell, so you never clear a notification you have not seen. Either way the tray stays open, so you can work down the list.

The tray holds the 12 most recent notifications that have not been cleared. The badge counts all of them, not only the 12 on screen, and shows 9+ above nine. A badge reading 9+ against a short list means there are older ones the tray is not showing, which is a sign to clear as you go.

It updates on its own

You do not need to refresh. New notifications arrive live, and the bell checks again when its connection comes back after a drop and when you return to the tab.

Timestamps are short: now, 5m, 3h, 2d, and a date once something is more than a week old.

The bell is not the email

They are separate and do not always carry the same news.

Where a portal is set to send a completion email, it goes to the person who finished, with a blind copy to you. The bell notice is yours alone, and it appears whether or not that email went. For a record of what mail actually left your account, see Activity.

Getting help

If the bell shows something that does not match what you find when you click it, email [email protected] with roughly when it appeared.
