Resetting your password
If you cannot remember your password, you can set a new one yourself from the sign-in page. The one precondition is a verified email address, because that is where the link goes.
Resetting it
- Go to Sign in and click Forgot password? under the password box.
- Type the address on your account and click Send reset link.
- Look for an email with the subject "Reset your WorkZerk password" and click the button in it.
- The page names the account the new password is for. Type it into New password and Confirm new password, then click Update password.
You land back on the sign-in page with a note that the password was updated. Sign in with the new one.
What the confirmation message means
After you submit, the page says: "If an account exists for that address, we've emailed a link to reset the password."
The page shows that message whether or not the address is registered, so nobody can use the form to find out who has an account. It cannot warn you when nothing was sent, so if no email turns up, read the next section rather than assuming it is slow.
Only verified addresses get a link
The reset only mails a verified address. If you never entered the six-digit code after signing up, nothing is sent, and you see the same message as everyone else.
That is the main reason to verify early. See verifying your email address. If you are unverified and have lost the password, email [email protected] from the address on the account and we will check who you are and sort it out by hand.
The link
- Good for 24 hours, then it stops working.
- Single use. Completing a reset kills the link you used and every other outstanding one for that account, so if you asked twice, the second link dies with the first.
- Asking for a new link does not kill the old one. Until one of them is used, any unexpired link works, which is worth knowing if you requested several and are not sure which email to open. Any of them will do.
- Finishing a reset signs you out everywhere else within about 30 minutes. Laptop, phone, a machine you borrowed once: each needs a fresh sign-in with the new password.
- If 10 wrong passwords in a row have locked you out for 5 minutes, the reset clears the lock as well.
If it does not work
Nothing arrived. Check spam and junk, and Gmail's Promotions and Updates tabs. Then check you typed the exact address on the account, not a similar one. Then consider the verified-address rule above, which is the most common cause.
"That reset link is invalid or has expired." Either more than 24 hours have passed, or the link has already been used. Ask for a fresh one.
The new password is refused. The minimum is 12 characters and there are no other rules (no required digits, capitals or symbols), so it is usually the confirm field not matching, often a trailing space from a paste.
Changing a password you still know
You do not need the reset flow for that. Open your profile and use the Change password card, which asks for the current password rather than emailing anything.
