Verifying your email address
Verifying proves the address on your account is really yours. You can sign in and build without it, but until you verify, WorkZerk sends no email from your account, your portal links do not open for anyone, and you cannot turn on two-factor authentication or reset a forgotten password.
Doing it
Signing up sends a six-digit code to your address, and a banner sits across the top of every page until you enter it. Click the banner, or go to Verify your email directly.
Opening that page sends you a fresh code if there is not already a live one waiting, so there is nothing to click first. Type the six digits and the form submits as soon as the last one lands (or press Verify). No sign out, no reload: the banner is gone on the next page you open.
The email's subject is "Your WorkZerk verification code:" followed by the code itself, so you can often read it straight off the notification. There is no link in it, which means you can read it on your phone and type it on the laptop you signed up on.
If you closed the browser before entering the code, sign in again with your email and password. You land on the verify page and a fresh code goes out.
The rules on a code
- Six digits, no letters.
- Valid for 30 minutes from the moment it was sent.
- Five attempts. Mistype it five times and that code is dead even if it has not expired, and you need a fresh one.
- Only the newest code works. Resending invalidates whatever came before it, so an older email in your inbox is no use.
- Resend code has a 30-second cooldown, shown as a countdown on the button.
- At most 30 codes per account in 24 hours. Past that, the page tells you when you can ask again.
The page tells you which of those you have hit rather than giving one generic failure, including how many attempts you have left.
What stays blocked until you verify
Everything you build works unverified: portals, requests, contacts, workflows, terms. What does not work is anything that reaches another person, by email or by a link.
No email goes out. Every email your account would send is held back, whether you press the button or an automation does:
- Emailing someone their portal link, and batched invites. You can still copy a link, but see the next point.
- The rejection email. Rejecting a document still applies the rejection and records the reason, but the person is not emailed. The notice after you reject says so and offers Verify now.
- Status update emails, when you move someone to a new status. The send option is switched off with "Verify your email to enable sending."
- Asking people to re-sign updated terms.
- Automations, including reminders and chases.
- Inviting a teammate to your account, or accepting an invitation to help run someone else's (see sharing your account).
Where you press a send button, the page tells you to verify first. An email an automation tried to send shows on Email activity as not sent, with the reason "the account's email address isn't verified yet."
Your links do not open. Anyone opening a portal link, a My portals page or a self-registration link from your account gets a page that is not available. You can still create and copy the links, and they start working the moment you verify. Nothing about the link changes, so a link you sent early works once you are verified.
Two-factor authentication waits. The two-factor page shows Verify now in place of the button to turn it on. Because an Upload request needs 2FA, you also cannot add one, or apply a request pack that contains one, until you have verified and turned 2FA on.
Password reset. Forgot password only mails a verified address, so an unverified account that loses its password becomes a support conversation with an identity check in it.
None of the held emails queue up and go out later. Verify first, then send.
Changing your address later
Changing the account email in the Change email card on your profile does not use a code. Send confirmation emails a link to the new address, and the change only takes effect when that link is opened. Until then you keep the old address and stay signed in. The old address also gets an email saying a change was requested.
If the code will not arrive
Check spam and junk, and in Gmail the Promotions and Updates tabs. Company mail gateways sometimes quarantine a new sender. If you have an IT team and the email is nowhere to be seen, ask them to release it.
If it still does not turn up after a resend, check the address the verify page says it sent to. A typo in the address you signed up with is the usual cause, and no amount of resending fixes it. Put the right address into Change email on your profile and open the confirmation link that arrives there: that changes the address and verifies it in one step.
